Innovator has become a ‘buzz’ word around entrepreneurs looking to describe themselves in a different more engaging way.
So what is innovation? The definition is subjective vs. objective. According to wikipedia, Innovation is a new idea, device or process.
Many entrepreneurs do what we call “with a twist” innovation.
That is, they slightly modify an existing product or process and call it new. It’s kind of the same as adding coconut oil to your coffee (a.k.a. with a twist) and saying it is innovative.
True innovation is completely different than with a twist. The best way to truly innovate is to ignore everything you are currently doing and begin with no mental or physical encumbrances.
So, if you consider yourself an innovator and your innovations are not measurable in terms of being ‘new’, consider the term, creative, which is subjective, making it hard to measure.
